SURFING Victoria has recommenced Coasting for Teens, with Torquay as one of the program’s chosen locations.<\/p>\n

The program initially launched in October 2019 as part of a VicHealth initiative encouraging teenage girls to be active through Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP).<\/p>\n

The program ran during Summer but had stopped in March as lockdown restrictions began.<\/p>\n

However, with restrictions now easing, and the weather improving Surfing Victoria is eager to resume coasting.<\/p>\n

Coasting program manager Monica Fleming said the program was important to people’s mental health as well as their physical health.<\/p>\n

“The Coasting program aims to get more young Victorian girls active, however, we have seen over the past few seasons the change it can have on a person’s overall wellbeing,” Ms Fleming said.<\/p>\n

“Being out on the water with some friends can really help lift your mood and is a great way to connect with others.<\/p>\n

“2020 has been challenging. But we hope to see plenty of young girls out on the water connecting to their communities again.”<\/p>\n

Surfing Victoria’s COVID Risk Management Plan includes protocols to ensure participant’s safety, including adhering to social distancing and masks being worn during briefings.<\/p>\n

The first session in Torquay is being held today (Thursday, October 1).<\/p>\n
