NOMINATIONS for the Borough of Queenscliffe\u2019s 2018 Australia Day Awards will close in under two weeks.<\/p>\n
Borough mayor Tony Francis said the awards, which close on November 15, recognise those people and groups who make outstanding contributions to the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey also acknowledge the diversity of the programs run by volunteers, whose participation and involvement strengthens our community,\u201d Cr Francis said.<\/p>\n
Nominations can be made for the following award categories \u2013 Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year, Community Organisation of the Year and Community Environment Project of the Year.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur past recipients share outstanding leadership qualities and commitment to others to make local community life richer for all,\u201d Cr Francis said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMost of them contribute their time and efforts on a voluntary basis, showing real dedication and generosity.\u201d<\/p>\n
All award nominations will be considered by the council\u2019s Australia Day Awards Selection Reference Group, which consists of Councillors and community members.<\/p>\n
The Australia Day Awards are provided under the auspice of the National Australia Day Council.<\/p>\n
The awards will be presented during the Australia Day celebrations on January 26.<\/p>\n
Nominations must be submitted on the official nomination form.<\/p>\n
The nomination form can be downloaded from the council\u2019s website, queenscliffe.vic.gov.au, and hard copies of the form are available from the council\u2019s offices at 50 Learmonth Street, Queenscliff.<\/p>\n
The selection criteria for each award category are explained on the nomination form.<\/p>\n
