ABOUT 400 people walked laps around Leopold Primary School\u2019s oval at the weekend to help fight cancer.<\/p>\n
Bellarine Relay For Life on Saturday and Sunday raised an impressive $46,971 for Cancer Council Victoria\u2019s research, prevention and support services.<\/p>\n
During the event, participants celebrated local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, and honoured and remembered loved ones lost to cancer, while raising money to help save more lives.<\/p>\n
They also listened to performances by Coolchange, The Black Hounds and Avalon, and enjoyed a hot breakfast on Sunday cooked by the Lions Club of Leopold for a gold coin donation.<\/p>\n
Team Loz, headed by Leopold local and relay Chair Manager Loz Hardman, raised $6,096 from her fundraising efforts throughout the year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you to everyone who walked laps, donated or came along to support our team,\u201d Loz said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone did an amazing job \u2013 you all should be very proud of yourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
Participant Patrick Smith walked non-stop around the track for 20 hours \u2013 a very impressive effort.<\/p>\n
Leopold local Tamara Allan said, \u201cWell done to all who took part in this year\u2019s relay, what a fantastic group of people touched by cancer, all with a passion and determination to contribute to important cancer research\u201d.<\/p>\n
