THE Anglesea Football and Netball Club is receiving $5,000 towards its strategic plan through a state government grant.<\/p>\n
The club is among those sharing in more than half a million dollars in the first round of the 2017-18 Sporting Club Grants Program.<\/p>\n
Under the program, clubs receive grants in one of four categories to assist in the purchase of sports uniforms and equipment, to improve the capacity and accessibility of Victorian clubs and other community sport and recreation organisations, or to increase the skills of their coaches, officials and managers.<\/p>\n
The Anglesea FNC received its funding in the \u201cClub Operational Capacity\u201d category.<\/p>\n
Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney announced the first round of grants last week.<\/p>\n
\u201cGrassroots sports clubs are the heart and soul of many towns throughout western Victoria, including here in Anglesea,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey bring people together and create healthier, happier and more united communities, and they\u2019re the launching pad of our next generation of champions.\u201d<\/p>\n
More than 340 clubs successfully applied for funding across the state in this round.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know the cost of uniforms or equipment can often stop kids from playing the sport they love \u2013 this funding exists to break down this barrier,\u201d Ms Tierney said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom new team uniforms to coaching programs, we\u2019re giving grassroots sports clubs in Western Victoria the support they need to grow their ranks, be more competitive and help more people than ever play the sports they love.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are proud of our clubs and the vital role they play in bringing together our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
