FORMER AFL player and Melbourne coach Mark Neeld has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of Basketball Geelong.<\/p>\n
The Basketball Geelong Commission announced its decision at the organisation\u2019s annual general meeting last month.<\/p>\n
The commission says Mr Neeld has extensive experience in both business and the high performance sports industry, and brings a level of strategic thinking that will take Basketball Geelong to new heights.<\/p>\n
After completing a Masters of Business Administration, Mr Neeld has been lecturing in business management at La Trobe University.<\/p>\n
His previous employment experience includes change management, facility management and development and leadership.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am thrilled to be joining Basketball Geelong at such an exciting time for the sport in the region,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBasketball Geelong and the Geelong Supercats are a strong brand in the community and have built a solid foundation, particularly with the AWA Alliance Bank Stadium in Belmont. There are some exciting opportunities for the future of the association.<\/p>\n
\u201cI look forward to working with the staff team, the Commission, the clubs and all stakeholders to continue to grow and promote basketball participation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Neeld has strong family ties to the Geelong community and will begin in the role of chief executive officer later this month.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo have a leader of Mark\u2019s calibre available and interested in the position has been a real coup for us,\u201d Basketball Geelong chair Sebastian Loader said.<\/p>\n
