{"id":3573,"date":"2017-12-08T07:48:34","date_gmt":"2017-12-08T07:48:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=3573"},"modified":"2017-12-08T07:48:34","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T07:48:34","slug":"week-showcase-medical-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/week-showcase-medical-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Week to showcase medical research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BARWON Health and Deakin University have announced the details of this year\u2019s Research Week.<\/p>\n<p>The annual week showcases the research activities of the two organisations and includes guest lectures by prominent Geelong researchers, various presentations, and education sessions aimed at early career researchers.<\/p>\n<p>Research Week will run from November 13- 17, and events will take place at the St Mary\u2019s Library and Research Centre, 192 Myers Street, Geelong.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the week include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>November 13, 4-6pm: Opening session with keynote scientific speaker Associate Professor Helen Abud on \u201cPersonalised cancer medicine: Using organoids to take the guesswork out of treatment\u201d. The session will also include brief addresses from Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson and Corio federal member Richard Marles<\/li>\n<li>November 14 and November 15, 5-6.30pm: Public forums on childhood obesity and doctor-patient communication<\/li>\n<li>November 15, 2-3.30pm: Inaugural Professorial lectures, featuring Professor Felice Jacka and Professor Peter Vuillermin<\/li>\n<li>November 17, 12.30-1.30pm: Barwon and Deakin panel discussion on physician-assisted dying, enabling the public to hear first-hand both sides of the voluntary euthanasia debate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The week will also feature free workshops, with topics including how to get a research grant, fundamental concepts of research design and opportunities for postgraduate training.<\/p>\n<p>St Mary\u2019s Library and Research Centre is at 192 Myers Street, Geelong.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, including the full calendar of events and how to book, head to barwonhealth.org.au\/research\/column-2\/research-week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BARWON Health and Deakin University have announced the details of this year\u2019s Research Week.
