CHRISTMAS lights have been hoisted around the giant Norfolk pine tree between Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff in preparation for the much loved community tradition.<\/p>\n
The 45 metre heritage listed tree was climbed by specialists who strung hundreds of coloured lights around the tree.<\/p>\n
The tree has been illuminated each summer for more than half century for the annual Borough tradition.<\/p>\n
The lighting ceremony will be take place on December 5th and will be broadcast live on Zoom and the council’s Facebook page.<\/p>\n
Coronavirus restrictions still prevent large-scale gatherings, but Borough of Queenscliffe chief executive Martin Gill is keen to make it special despite COVID restrictions.<\/p>\n
“While Christmas in the Borough may be different this year, Council is working hard to make sure it will be just as special,” he said.<\/p>\n
“We’re looking forward to having local residents and visitors from far away take part in our live broadcast and share in this important tradition in a new way this year.”<\/p>\n
The council took over the operation of the tree following the disbandment of the Rotary Club of Queenscliff earlier this year.<\/p>\n
The council says the tree is just one of many exciting Christmas activities coming to the borough.<\/p>\n
Residents will also be treated to Christmas flags, created by a local designer, to be installed in major shopping precincts.<\/p>\n
