{"id":3669,"date":"2017-12-11T09:01:34","date_gmt":"2017-12-11T09:01:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=3669"},"modified":"2017-12-11T09:01:34","modified_gmt":"2017-12-11T09:01:34","slug":"pupils-showcase-sustainability-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/living\/pupils-showcase-sustainability-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Pupils showcase sustainability success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The inaugural Torquay College Festival is being held on November 12 in conjunction with the Quiksilver Sustainability Challenge.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The festival will showcase activities the students have participated in throughout the year, including art and music, while focusing on their work surrounding more sustainable ways of living.<\/p>\n<p>The Quiksilver Sustainability Challenge is for students from Prep to Grade 6 from Torquay College Primary School, Bellbrae Primary School and St Therese Primary School, and is about creating awareness of the environment, particularly highlighting the problem of plastic pollution.<\/p>\n<p>Student will have their projects for the challenge on display at the festival in sustainability hub with numerous local businesses showcasing their own sustainability efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Festival organiser Robert Skehan from Plastic Bag Free Torquay said the festival was a great opportunity for parents and the community to see the great work students have completed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents are the ones organising and driving this event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a way for them to show their parents and community how they\u2019re leading the way in sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will also have live music, arts and craft, many exhibitors keeping with the sustainability theme and delicious food on offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Live music for the festival will include school bands, solo performances from students and talented local musicians.<\/p>\n<p>About 2pm there will be a presentation of the Quiksilver Sustainability Challenge and a raffle.<\/p>\n<p>Festival-goers are encouraged to bring their own water bottles, coffee cups, plates and cutlery to create minimal waste from the event.<\/p>\n<p>The festival is located at Torquay College from 11am-4pm.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, head to the Facebook page \u201cTorquay College Festival \u2013 2017\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The inaugural Torquay College Festival is being held on November 12 in conjunction with the Quiksilver Sustainability Challenge.
