COMMUNITY food relief organisations will receive their own relief as the State Government recognises the crucial work they do for community members in need through a Community Food Relief Fund.<\/p>\n
Feed Me Bellarine is one of 93 organisations across the state that will benefit from the Government grants.<\/p>\n
The grant of $75,000 will be drawn from $11.3 million the State Government has allocated to expand food relief operations in the wake of the COVID pandemic.<\/p>\n
According to a statement released by the State Government it will provide an addition 2,000,000 meals and 180,000 food hampers to Victorians in need.<\/p>\n
Member for Bellarine, Lisa Neville, said the State Government was boosting resources for community-based food relief services.<\/p>\n
In addition to the Community Food Relief Fund, the Victorian Government has allocated $3.5 million for food distribution hubs in regional areas to strengthen the link between suppliers and those in need.<\/p>\n
“Every Victorian deserves access to fresh and healthy food,” she said.<\/p>\n
“The State Government is making sure our local food relief organisations like Feed Me Bellarine is able to support people when and where they need it.<\/p>\n
“This grant will make a real difference for local community members who are struggling to put food on the table.<\/p>\n
“I thank Feed Me Bellarine operators Lana Purcell and Anthony Woodbury for their work.”<\/p>\n
Feed Me Bellarine is the brainchild of Lana Purcell, owner of Belly Bowls and Bellarine Catering and chef Anthony Woodbury.<\/p>\n
So far the volunteer run organisation has raised $225,387 in donations, saved 238,795kg of food from landfill and created 100,058 meals.<\/p>\n
