THIRTEENTH Beach Surf Life Saving Club will continue their decade-long involvement with the Wreck2Reef this summer.<\/p>\n

The Wreck2Reef, which enters its 12th year, will take place on 13 February and will once again do so with the support of 13th Beach SLSC which continues to relish the opportunity to support the race.<\/p>\n

“It is a bit of fun, it is nice to do, and it is something different for all of us people to do, we take a few bronzies (bronze medallion holders and IRB crew) over there,” 13th Beach SLSC Club president Andrew McKinnon said.<\/p>\n

“They really enjoy that aspect \u2013 that side of it works really well for us.<\/p>\n

“It is something different, there is that bit of interaction with being able to cruise around, there is that nice flat water (at Half Moon Bay) and you are not really looking over your shoulder for a four foot (wave) coming behind you.<\/p>\n

“To be honest it is not something we have chased, there are a lot of other clubs that chase water safety (swims) \u2013 our club doesn’t chase those as such.”<\/p>\n

Thirteenth Beach SLSC will provide up to 20 member personnel, four to five Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRBs) and additional rescue boards.<\/p>\n

McKinnon has been involved with the Wreck2Reef for more than 10 years prior to being named club president six years ago.<\/p>\n

“I inherited it (as president), it was going when I was here, it has been an on-going thing (for us) for a number of years.”<\/p>\n

To comply with COVID-19 restrictions, Wreck2Reef organisers have introduced\u00a0a 500-cap limit for swimmers for this\u00a0summer’s 2.5 km and 1.2km open water\u00a0swim events.<\/p>\n
