NEARLY 20 youngsters enjoyed a day they will never forget during last week\u2019s Kids Plus program.<\/p>\n

The Kids Plus program offers children with cerebral palsy, aged between four and 14, an opportunity to take part in the four-day program which provides a safe and fun physiotherapy session as well as education around water safety.<\/p>\n

But the more memorable moment came on the final day when the Torquay Marine Rescue Service took the group out on jet skis, bringing plenty of joy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re never getting that experience anywhere else,\u201d program organiser Steve Jewson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of them can communicate, some of them can\u2019t, but you can just tell by the looks on their faces (how much they loved it).<\/p>\n

\u201cEach child will have a set of goals they\u2019ll want to achieve \u2026 anything from walking on the sand by themselves, or some might be wanting to get in the water and feel comfortable in that environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

The program took place at Fisherman\u2019s Beach and was run by Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mr Jewson said the social benefits of the program were also great, with many of the children developing strong relationships over the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a bit of fun for everybody \u2026 they really enjoy it, the kids are fantastic. The compassion and care they show for the other kids throughout the week is great.\u201d<\/p>\n

Helping out with the program is many of Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club\u2019s junior life savers and developing members. All done on a volunteer basis, the program provides a great community feel.<\/p>\n
