THE Fishos Paddle Series kicked off last Friday night in typical cold Victorian conditions.<\/p>\n
There was a great turn out for the race across all the disciplines, with many juniors participating too.<\/p>\n
The event is a six-race series incorporating all paddle disciplines over a five-kilometre and 10-kilometre distance, starting and finishing at Fishermans Beach.<\/p>\n
The cost is $25 per race, with the second race to be held on December 1.<\/p>\n
The course was set to reflect the south-westerly that was blowing fairly strongly on the night.<\/p>\n
The triangular shaped course began the paddle into the wind toward Cosy Corner, followed by a blistering leg with strong winds on the paddler\u2019s backs, before turning near Whites Beach for a finish back at Fishos.<\/p>\n
Father and son teams Tim and Ollie Watson and Cam and Greg Stewart were a highlight of the night, showcasing the ability paddling has a as a sport to bring all members of the community together.<\/p>\n
Event communications manager Emma Webb said the camaraderie between paddlers led to enormous encouragement of each other no matter the age, gender or paddling discipline of the competitor.<\/p>\n
\u201cSupporting each other is what this series is all about, so bring on the next event, I say.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnother highlight of the night was the enthusiastic juniors who made the trip over to Torquay with their parents from Ocean Grove.\u201d<\/p>\n
