TWO clubs united at the weekend to help raise almost $22,000 for Billy Bubb, a 22-year-old man who will never walk again following a motorbike accident.<\/p>\n

Billy\u2019s Day by the Bay \u2013 Fundraiser and Car Show, which was organised by Old Skool Street Cars and Leopold Angling and Aquatic Club, attracted about 2,000 people on Sunday, and more than 160 classic cars.<\/p>\n

Held at Leopold Angling and Aquatic Club, Billy\u2019s sister Amy Bubb said she couldn\u2019t have hoped for a better turn out.<\/p>\n

She said Billy would have loved to attend but that he was still in rehab.<\/p>\n

During the day there were many prizes up for grabs, all donated by companies and people, plus there was fun for the children with a colouring competition, live music and more.<\/p>\n

Amy said there was no set goal for how much money they wanted to raise as every little bit would help.<\/p>\n

\u201cGary Benson and Dave Rochow came up with the idea to have a car show to raise money to help Bill. The angling club had previously said they wanted Old Skool Street Cars to have a car show at their club, and then Dave, who is Old Skool\u2019s president, approached Peter Nowell, the angling club president.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeter wanted to do it because he knew Bill from when he played football at a young age.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen both clubs came together and all the ideas just came together to create this huge event.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amy said Billy was in a very serious motorbike accident on New Year\u2019s Eve while in South Australia, severely breaking his back and severing his spinal cord.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis chances of walking again are very minimal, however he is strong and we\u2019ll do everything to give him a chance,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Amy said it was very rare for her family to ask for help as they preferred toughing it out and doing things themselves, but this time was different.<\/p>\n
