<\/p>\nTHE Surfside Waves Soccer Club has celebrated its 25th birthday by hosting a community party.<\/p>\n
More than 300 people attended the event on Saturday where they enjoyed a guest performance from local musician Kim Cooper, jumping castles, and kicking competitions.<\/p>\n
The event took place during the first home game for the season at the Shell Road Pavillion ground in Ocean Grove.<\/p>\n
President Mike Sutton said the celebration attracted a mixture of past, present and future players and coaches who embraced the community celebration.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a really good day and a brilliant atmosphere,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had a whole spectrum of people attending from past volunteers, supporters, players and coaches it was really great.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Sutton said a number of players had grown up at the club, starting in the junior competition and now playing at the highest level.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had a lot of people commenting on what a great community feel the club has which was a real compliment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
During the event the State League Soccer season kicked off with the Surfside Waves Reserve team coming from behind to draw with Lara United at home.<\/p>\n

The senior\u2019s side was defeated by the opposition, but the positivity remained high during the event which led into the night.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had lots of kids activities such as face painting and lucky dip, as well as the barbeque, kiosk and bar going all afternoon,\u201d Mr Sutton said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were kids everywhere enjoying themselves, families, grandparents, players, coaches and of course our magnificent volunteers making it all possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
