{"id":39161,"date":"2021-04-08T00:44:44","date_gmt":"2021-04-07T13:44:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=39161"},"modified":"2021-04-06T16:49:04","modified_gmt":"2021-04-06T05:49:04","slug":"community-gathers-for-easter-celebrations-in-whittington","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/community-gathers-for-easter-celebrations-in-whittington\/","title":{"rendered":"Community gathers for Easter celebrations in Whittington"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A NEIGHBOURHOOD Centre in Whittington invited the local community to share in Easter celebrations for the first time this Good Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Bellarine Living and Learning Centre hosted an Easter Friday Treasure Hunt, which included a free sausage sizzle, free raffle and treasure hunt for the kids.<\/p>\n<p>BLLC Secretary Melissa Hutchinson said the event was something she and Rose Ott, the centre\u2019s community engagement project officer, wanted to build on in future years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just wanted to get more happening and thought to see the community come together like this would be just beautiful,\u201d Melissa said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/04\/egghunt_85603.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"513\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a heart just to do things like this and get people together and today is perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rose said Melissa had been great at getting the neighbourhood together for the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve also been doing some community networking and work for the Bellarine Living and Learning Centre,\u201d Rose said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking at what the community wants and getting community feedback about what qualities the community feels is important.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important the community has a say in what they want so the programs and courses will be shaped from what we\u2019ve been told.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/04\/bbqguys_98722.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"779\" height=\"520\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During the Easter Friday Treasure Hunt, children collected crosses stuck in the grass and then exchanged them for chocolate eggs \u2013 this was because the eggs would have melted in the hot sun.<\/p>\n<p>BLLC is a community-based organisation providing local residents with opportunities to learn, develop, and socialise.<\/p>\n<p>Staff work to ensure all individuals have equal opportunities to participate.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about Bellarine Living and Learning Centre, visit bllc.org.au.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A NEIGHBOURHOOD Centre in Whittington invited the local community to share in Easter celebrations for the first time this Good Friday. Being a Geelong girl at heart, after a year there, she returned home to work for the Geelong News, and then the Geelong Advertiser as a sub-editor for the daily paper and GT Magazine. Following this, she took on a sub-editing role at the Ocean Grove Voice, before becoming editor of Kids\u2019 Voice magazine. Rebecca has worked for the Bellarine Times for five years and enjoys the variety of stories and photos she writes and captures for the weekly publication. Rebecca lives in Leopold and has two beautiful kids.
