THE Springs Dell Boardwalk is edging closer to completion following a four-month delay in construction.<\/p>\n
A City of Greater Geelong spokesperson has confirmed the boardwalk is “close to completion” with an official opening date soon to be announced.<\/p>\n
“The substructure and decking are finished, with handrailing the final element to be installed,” they said.<\/p>\n
Discussions for a new boardwalk began between the Drysdale Clifton Springs Curlewis Association (DCSA) and the City of Greater Geelong in 2016, with residents later voting in 2018 for the construction of the “little dell” under the Victorian Government’s Pick My Project initiative.<\/p>\n
Erosion has been an ongoing concern for the DSCA who were proactive in instigating projects to improve the access of the Clifton Springs coast without compromising the historical and ecological significance.<\/p>\n
The $200,000 project was prioritised by locals in a bid to preserve the history of the town which was once a lively spa resort.<\/p>\n
Originally anticipated to be completed ahead of Christmas, the boardwalk has finally taken shape with the finishing touches now underway.<\/p>\n
The new Dell has been constructed using recycled material in accordance with the City of Greater Geelong circular economy aspirations.<\/p>\n
Once completed the boardwalk will allow for improved public access to a difficult pinch point while preserving the nearby heritage protected relics from the former mineral springs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
