{"id":39449,"date":"2021-04-15T00:34:18","date_gmt":"2021-04-14T13:34:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=39449"},"modified":"2021-04-14T16:54:19","modified_gmt":"2021-04-14T05:54:19","slug":"ocean-grove-and-torquay-take-top-honours-at-state-champs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/ocean-grove-and-torquay-take-top-honours-at-state-champs\/","title":{"rendered":"Ocean Grove and  Torquay take top honours at state champs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OCEAN Grove Surf Life Saving Club has been named \u2018Overall Club Champion\u2019 at the 2020\/21 Life Saving Victoria State Championships.<\/p>\n<p>The winning club finished with 504 points and Torquay came in second with 327 points.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lornesurfclub.com.au\/\">Lorne SLSC<\/a> hosted rescue, resuscitation, beach and water events in March, however the surfboats were rescheduled to Easter Monday at Fishermans Beach in Torquay due to challenging surf conditions at Lorne.<\/p>\n<p>Result highlights included Torquay SLSC winning the Open 6 Man Taplin Relay and Point Leo SLSC taking out the Women\u2019s Taplin relay, as well as Warrnambool SLSC\u2019s Sophie Thomas winning the Open Women\u2019s Ironwoman event and Lorne SLSC crews winning the Open Men and Open Women\u2019s surfboat events.<\/p>\n<p>Iestyn Knapp from Ocean Grove SLSC was named the 2021 Maurie Rayner scholarship recipient for his outstanding results throughout the season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were awesome conditions, and it was a good weekend,\u201d Knapp said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been training for two years for these State Championships (given last year was cancelled due to COVID-19) so I wasn\u2019t going to let pain get in the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jemma Holt, the overall Under 14 Athlete of the Year (Fred Westfield medallist) said: \u201cThe weekend was so fun, with so many challenges. Anyone who went out and gave it a go should be really proud of themselves\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Point Leo SLSC was the standout winner of the 2021 LSV Masters State Championships with 503 points.
