THE home of the Bellarine Historical Society has recently undergone some much-needed restoration work and will be open this Anzac Day afternoon.<\/p>\n
President Lorraine Stokes said the Court House Museum in Drysdale would be displaying various images and books on April 25 about those who fought in the two wars.<\/p>\n
Ms Stokes said the pandemic had halted the work of the society, but now complete, memorabilia was being identified, processed and displayed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough community support we have created a photographic display of various farms throughout the Bellarine, and now these images adorn the walls of the Court House,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Court House built in 1880 still has the Judge\u2019s bench, Jury Room and Magistrate\u2019s Room.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was also home to the Bellarine Shire Council until that was dissolved by the Kennett Government.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany images of shire councillors are on display in the Magistrate\u2019s Room.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Stokes said the Historical Society held many records ranging from school records, church records, family history and rate books.<\/p>\n
It also holds publications written about various people and places.<\/p>\n
\u201cWork will begin in the next few months in the old garage establishing a display of agricultural items and tools,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe museum will be open on the last Sunday of the month.<\/p>\n
\u201cArrangements can be made if community groups wish to visit.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u2019s aim is to preserve the history of the Bellarine.<\/p>\n
Over the years a dedicated team of volunteers has created a unique research centre that contains rate books, church records, and family histories.<\/p>\n
It also has a small museum, which contains items of local significance.<\/p>\n
