THE latest stage of the Lions Village Bellarine in
\nPortarlington has been named in honour of longtime
\nmembers Alan and Winifred Vallance.<\/p>\n
Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville officially
\nopened stage six (three self-contained units) of the
\nLions Village on Friday.<\/p>\n
The opening takes to 23 the number of units in the Village, which provides affordable accommodation for pension-aged people.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know I am biased, but what better place to move to, for a life in retirement, than the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula and places like Portarlington,\u201d Ms Neville said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it is very fitting and deserved honour that this complex is named after lifetime Village stalwarts Alan and Win Vallance.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have served a combined 50 years plus on the Committee of Management, dating back to 1978 when the idea of the complex was first discussed.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd they have continued to serve this facility in one way or another ever since, including terms as President and Secretary.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Neville also extended her congratulations to all those people who had in some way been involved in the construction of the facility, especially Committee of Management members president Geoff Webster, current secretary Roger Sanders and outgoing secretary Kayleen Harman, who had put much of her time and effort into the project.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo all a job well done and may the Alan and Winifred Vallance complex serve this community well for many years to come,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The Village is managed by a voluntary committee of management and is self-funded.<\/p>\n
Members of Portarlington\/Drysdale Lions Club help out with working bees for gardening.<\/p>\n
