ORGANISERS behind Ocean Grove Football and Netball Club\u2019s recent Pink Day have hailed the fundraiser a \u201cmassive success\u201d, raising $14,000 for Breast Cancer Network Australia.<\/p>\n
Organisers Rachael Thomas and Megan McKnight said they were very happy with the outcome of the day, and that good food, good wine, and good music always proved a winner.<\/p>\n
Megan said about 180 women attended the fundraiser, which included canap\u00e9s from Driftwood Cafe, music and dancing, and quality sparkling from Oneday Estate Winery.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur speakers were also phenomenal,\u201d Megan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cDirector of netball Tamara Splatt is such a strong and successful woman and Netball Club committee member and Breast cancer survivor Miriam Leahy\u2019s speech was quite touching.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s usually hard to keep the crowd quiet during speeches, but you could have heard a pin drop.\u201d<\/p>\n
During the day the senior women wore pink dresses, the senior men wore pink socks and the juniors held a Pink Day stall.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ladies function was just the icing on the cake!\u201d Rachael said.<\/p>\n
She said it was the wonderful people of the club and community who made Pink Day a success.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you to the families who donated to the many prizes, the senior girls for the hampers, senior footballers for contributions, and the many, many people who volunteered on the day from doing flowers, selling raffle tickets, auctioneering, serving at the bar, serving food and speaking.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe key for us was to organise a nice event women wanted to attend and have a good time, and it\u2019s always a good feeling to hand over the cheque at the end of the day.<\/p>\n
\u201cDays like these are fantastic to support organisations such as BCNA, as well as our community club.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a breast screening van will be set up at Shell Road Pavillion in Ocean Ocean Grove until May 28.<\/p>\n
