Liberal Member for Western Victoria Simon Ramsay has taken fire at Bellarine MP Lisa Neville over the condition of Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club\u2019s (SLSC) back beach facility.<\/p>\n
Mr Ramsay recently told Parliament that the facility was in desperate need of repair.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe back beach is notoriously dangerous.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut the government is ignoring requests for the SLSC facility – that monitors that beach – to be repaired to standard.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the back beach base was also known as the HC Windmill Back Beach Base building and it was suffering badly from concrete cancer.<\/p>\n
Mr Ramsey said the building was used for storage of some of the club\u2019s equipment and a tower enabling SLS volunteers to patrol the back beach.<\/p>\n
\u201cHalf a million dollars is needed to repair the damage caused by the concrete cancer so that this very vital patrol service for swimmers can continue to operate normally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
However, Ms Neville said Mr Ramsay was again jumping in late in his attempts to address the back beach facility issue.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have been in discussions with the Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club to address the club\u2019s infrastructure needs and am working with the club to find a solution,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re continuing to support the club\u2019s base and to ensure it remains a community asset that keeps people safe.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have already allocated $1.5 million in the 2017-18 budget to help the club redevelop its clubhouse.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
