THE Bellarine Community Support Register (BCSR) has celebrated not only a rare chance to all meet in person but also an award recognising their efforts.<\/p>\n
The not-for-profit organisation makes care calls to people who have signed up to the register and who choose to receive calls.<\/p>\n
A call from the register is a means to ensure people are okay, connected to the community and, if necessary, linked into any services they may require.<\/p>\n
As part of this year\u2019s National Volunteer Week, BSCR volunteers gathered at Queenscliff\u2019s 360Q to celebrate their work over the previous 12 months.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was only the second gathering of their volunteers following a COVID year of remote operations,\u201d BCSR volunteer office co-ordinator Denise Hibbins said.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring this time, we celebrated the reconnection of our volunteers who were able to attend.\u201d<\/p>\n
Last month, BCSR was also named the South Bellarine Volunteer Organisation of the Year by the Rotary Club of Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was a very emotional and very much appreciated recognition of our commitment to the people we provide a service to given our year of remote operations and the challenges we faced as a small but committed organisation,\u201d Ms Hibbins said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe take this opportunity to congratulate all nominees and all those recognised for their contributions to the local community.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe appreciate beyond words the recognition of this award.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said BCSR had experienced challenges during remote operations, but these had been eased by the ongoing commitment of BCSR\u2019s valued volunteers and financial support from Kings Funerals, City of Greater Geelong and the Bellarine Aged Care Association, as well as from registrant donors and anonymous donors.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have also been privileged to have the pro bono support of Bill Mandley from Apogee IT in setting up remote IT equipment. Bill continues to provide ongoing support at no cost to the organisation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Hibbins said BCSR would continue to provide its care call service to those requesting a call on an ongoing basis, whether through remote operations or from its office at the Bellarine Police Station, which is open 9.30am-noon Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).<\/p>\n
