A NEW garden at Whittington Primary School is providing pupils with a true sensory experience.
\nBoasting beautiful trees, a variety of plants, along with stones and pathways, the Sensory Garden surrounds the school\u2019s \u2018Wellbeing Hub\u2019, which houses a fully resourced sensory room, connected to a meeting space for allied health providers and care teams.
\nAssistant Principal Shannon Cormack said the sensory space had long been a priority for the school.
\n\u201cWe had an opportunity to create a separate wellbeing space that would meet the needs of our students and engage them in a safe sensory and exploratory environment,\u201d Ms Cormack said.
\n\u201cWith its gorgeous picket fence, we have named the space \u2018The Cottage\u2019.
\n\u201cWe were lucky enough to engage with David Petering from Connected Gardens, who brought our vision to life and created a wonderful space for our students.
\n\u201cMany of the plants allow the children to touch, taste and smell, providing them with a true sensory experience.\u201d
\nMs Cormack said the sensory garden took about six months to complete, from the initial design concept to completion.
\nPupil Brad said he absolutely loved the sensory garden, especially the way everything was designed.
\n\u201cIt looks really good,\u201d he said.
\nWhittington Primary School underwent a full school rebuild in 2019, and offers state-of-the-art facilities, with access to beautiful grounds and gardens.<\/p>\n
