AFTER a 20-year hiatus, Joey Scouts has restarted at 1st Drysdale Scout Group.<\/p>\n
Joey Scouts is the youngest age group in the scouting group, which includes five, six and seven-year-old boys and girls.<\/p>\n
Joey Scouts leader Wayne Myers said the kids’ activities were decided by the young people themselves, under the general theme of “Discover Adventure”.<\/p>\n
“But the activities still involve a lot of skills, even learning to tie a knot, mostly through games,” Mr Myers said.<\/p>\n
“One of their first nights out at the Ocean Grove Nature Reserve was observing nature and learning how to safely light a fire – of course then you just had to toast marshmallows.”<\/p>\n
Mr Myers said as the kids settled in more, they would become involved in community service-related activities, just like the older cub scout and scout sections.<\/p>\n
“For ANZAC Day they made lanterns to use at their front gate and visited the local cenotaph to look at the names and flowers – this age group is so anxious to learn everything.”<\/p>\n
