{"id":4344,"date":"2017-12-22T04:01:54","date_gmt":"2017-12-22T04:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=4344"},"modified":"2017-12-22T04:01:54","modified_gmt":"2017-12-22T04:01:54","slug":"take-dog-breakfast-learn-hoodies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/take-dog-breakfast-learn-hoodies\/","title":{"rendered":"Take your dog to breakfast and learn about hoodies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Friends of the Hooded Plover Surf Coast are holding four \u201cdogs\u2019 breakfasts\u201d events to help spread the word about hooded plover protection on the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n<p>Supported by representatives from Coastcare, Parks Victoria, Birdlife Australia and the Great Ocean Road Coast Committee, the free events are open to anyone who would like to learn more about responsible dog walking and efforts to protect the threatened bird species.<\/p>\n<p>The hooded plover (also known as the \u201choodie\u201d) is an Australian shorebird that faces many threats to its survival, including the disturbance of its beach nests by dogs and people.<\/p>\n<p>In Victoria, hooded plovers are classed as a vulnerable species.<\/p>\n<p>Friends of the Hooded Plover Surf Coast\u2019s Sue Guinness said the four breakfasts were funded through the state government\u2019s Coastcare Grants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCome along to a free breakfast, learn about the threatened hooded plover, responsible dog walking, and how you can help the local hoodies breeding on our beaches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be giveaways for all \u2013 even the dog!\u201d Events will be held at:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Urquhart Bluff, Aireys Inlet \u2013 January 6, 8-10am<\/li>\n<li>Fishermans Beach, Torquay \u2013 January 9 \u2013 7-9am<\/li>\n<li>Point Roadknight Back Beach \u2013 January 11, 7-9<\/li>\n<li>Inlet Beach, Airey Inlet \u2013 January 13, 7-9am<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Want to get more actively involved?
