THE first day of trading for Child\u2019s Play Torquay on December 5 was an eventful one, with staff helping to save the life of a three-month-old baby.<\/p>\n
Manager Beckk was welcoming families to the centre and speaking with parents about the educational programs on offer, while also having fun with the children.<\/p>\n
The family of the three-month-old toured the centre before leaving with their child, who was seemingly sleepy and content.<\/p>\n
A few minutes later the baby\u2019s father ran back into the centre carrying his three-month-old child, distraught that his baby\u2019s feet had turned blue, wasn\u2019t reacting to either parent\u2019s voice, and was lethargic and non-responsive.<\/p>\n
The Child\u2019s Play staff immediately called 000 and guided the father through CPR and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation until the paramedics arrived.<\/p>\n
The ambulance arrived and was able to transfer the baby to a local hospital. Due to the quick actions of staff, the baby survived the ordeal.<\/p>\n
It was a terrifying experience for everyone involved, but the Child\u2019s Play staff and family were able to stay calm and throughout the situation.<\/p>\n
As a result of the harrowing and confronting experience, Child\u2019s Play acknowledges how important CPR skills are, and is offering CPR and First Aid courses to the community at a discounted rate of 50 per cent.<\/p>\n
