{"id":45856,"date":"2021-10-17T04:00:45","date_gmt":"2021-10-16T17:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=45856"},"modified":"2021-10-13T11:58:23","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T00:58:23","slug":"all-abilities-art-class-provides-stroke-of-inclusiveness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/all-abilities-art-class-provides-stroke-of-inclusiveness\/","title":{"rendered":"All abilities art class provides stroke of inclusiveness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AFTER several lockdowns and much disruption, a productive and inclusive weekly group is back on with many participants benefitting from the expression of artwork.<\/p>\n<p>The Art for All Abilities program is a weekly art group for people with disabilities run by art therapist Celia Adams at the SpringDale Neighbourhood Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Adams has a Masters in Art Therapy and a Certificate IV in Disability Support. She has more than 10 years\u2019 experience running art therapy groups for people living with disability.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the group is to help people grow in confidence through creativity.<\/p>\n<p>Each student who takes part is encouraged to explore their preferred way of making art and is supported by Ms Adams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParticipants are allowed to take some artistic risks, knowing that it is okay for a creative experiment to go off course,\u201d Ms Adams said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople of all abilities attend the group to pursue art making and skill development. Other benefits of the group include confidence building, relaxation, creative growth and connecting with others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Group participant Trevor Ah Hang was apprehensive about painting to begin with because he had an aversion to getting messy.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Ah Hang found that the more he absorbed in the art making process as time went on, the less concerned he was about the mess.<\/p>\n<p>He now creates art with confidence and is happy to experiment with new ways of mark making.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI get to see other\u2019s points on art and what it means to them, and it constantly surprises me,\u201d Mr Ah Hang said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 437px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/10\/BridgetandTrevor_52984.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"437\" height=\"328\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Art for All Abilities participants Bridget Gooda and Trevor Ah Hang deep in creative thinking.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Other group participants also offer enthusiastic responses when asked what they like about the group.<\/p>\n<p>Polly Munday, who has been attending the group since it first started in 2018 said, \u201cIn Art All Abilities you get to make all sorts of stuff: making, painting, drawing \u2013 gaining skills and confidence.
