{"id":45957,"date":"2021-10-14T07:58:49","date_gmt":"2021-10-13T20:58:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/former-tiger-to-run-the-jungle-in-2022\/"},"modified":"2021-10-14T07:58:49","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T20:58:49","slug":"former-tiger-to-run-the-jungle-in-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/former-tiger-to-run-the-jungle-in-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Tiger to run the jungle in 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Torquay Netball Club is hoping a past champion will bring future success to the club, announcing a new face will occupy the head coaching role for the first time in almost a decade.<\/p>\n<p>Former Torquay Tiger and Geelong Cougars coach Sonia Harris is returning to the club where she won a premiership in 2016, succeeding her old head coach Courtney Coulahan at the helm.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 548px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/10\/IMG_0246_71597.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"548\" height=\"365\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New head coach Sonia Harris (left) and former head coach Courtney Coulahan (right) at Spring Creek Reserve&#8217;s courts.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI am super excited,\u201d Harris said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll go in a bit easy to start though. I want to get to know everybody first, see how they react to things and see what they take to and what they don\u2019t.<br \/>\n\u201cIn saying that, I also think people are a bit COVID fatigued so we won\u2019t get started until next year, but I will be very happy to get into some court-work once we get to that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers\u2019 A grade side is fresh off a promising 2021, but with little to show for it after the season was cancelled following the first week of the finals fixtures.<\/p>\n<p>Harris said that \u201cwithout a doubt\u201d the A grade side will be looking to challenge for another shot at the premiership in 2022, a mindset that her predecessor had instilled in the current playing group years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith Courtney as their previous coach, the mindset of the girls over the last few years has been to make finals, reach the grand final and win the grand final,\u201d Harris said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like winning, I like to win, and I want to maintain a winning culture at the club so that\u2019s what we will be aiming for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Having also held coaching roles at Thomson\u2019s GDFL Netball side and the Victorian Netball League\u2019s City West Falcons, Harris\u2019 experience was a major drawcard for the club according to president Megan Mifsud, among many others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSonia is also former player of the club, a former champion, a Torquay local and is really familiar with the club, she just ticks all the boxes,\u201d Mifsud said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has a wealth of knowledge and people like her which is great, but change is great, change is exciting.
