A TEMPORARY roundabout will be installed at the intersection of Kirk and Winterley roads in Point Lonsdale in response to community concerns about speeding traffic.<\/p>\n
The Borough of Queenscliffe says Kirk Road residents have reported traffic travelling along the Kirk Road at dangerous speeds.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve heard that this makes the neighbourhood unsafe and causes challenges entering and exiting driveways,\u201d the council said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want all our residents to feel safe using their streets, so council commissioned a traffic engineer to examine the problem and how it might be resolved.<\/p>\n
\u201cA traffic count found 23 per cent of vehicles using Kirk Road were exceeding the speed limit during the survey period, and a specialist engineer recommended installing a roundabout on the intersection of Kirk Road and Winterley Road to slow traffic.\u201d<\/p>\n
The engineer\u2019s report also advised that a roundabout would also prevent cars travelling quickly around the corner.<\/p>\n
Accepting the advice, the council will start work on the temporary roundabout this month.<\/p>\n
The temporary roundabout will be trialed over 12 months to determine if the roundabout has effectively slowed traffic, or if design needs alterations before deciding on a permanent solution.<\/p>\n
