OCEAN Grove Primary School is once again hosting its annual art show at The Hive Gallery.<\/p>\n
Visual arts teacher Andrea Thompson said staff and students were really excited to get the art show up and running after a two-year hiatus.<\/p>\n
“It’s nice to have a celebration and produce some joyful artworks after such a challenging year,” Ms Thompson said.<\/p>\n
“It’s also really great to collaborate with The Hive and the wider school community.”<\/p>\n
The exhibition is also a fundraiser for the school and students in all year levels have had the opportunity to donate a piece of art.<\/p>\n
“We really value exhibiting student artwork in a real-life gallery to give them the full rich experience,” Ms Thompson said.<\/p>\n
Ocean Grove student Ava revealed the secret to making a great artwork was a combination of effort and clever colour selection.<\/p>\n
“Try your best and use lots of colours \u2026 particularly pink and aqua”<\/p>\n
And with so many bright and dazzling artworks on display you could be forgiven for wondering whether the Tate Modern was missing a Matisse or two.<\/p>\n
Ms Thompson said the students delved into looking at artists and artistic inspiration from a variety of different genres.<\/p>\n
“We’ve looked at everything from fantasy art to contemporary artists,” she said.<\/p>\n
The Grade 6 students kickflipped convention by creating a series of artworks on skateboard decks.<\/p>\n
“We were wanting to keep engagement levels high with the grade six students and also give them a memento to remember their time at primary school so we thought skateboards were the perfect medium,” Ms Thompson said.<\/p>\n
“The students have had so many challenges this year so it’s really nice for students to be able to have a celebration of this kind.”<\/p>\n
The art show will take place on Friday, December 3 at Hive Gallery. Donated artworks can then be purchased for $5 each.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
