{"id":47292,"date":"2021-12-10T04:00:38","date_gmt":"2021-12-09T17:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=47292"},"modified":"2021-12-08T11:21:26","modified_gmt":"2021-12-08T00:21:26","slug":"act-leaves-grateful-resident-in-shock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/act-leaves-grateful-resident-in-shock\/","title":{"rendered":"Act leaves grateful resident in shock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AN UNEXPECTED act of kindness has befallen a Bellarine resident thanks to the spontaneous goodwill of an essential services worker.<\/p>\n<p>Ocean Grove resident Margaret Schenk went about her grocery shop the same as every other time she visited the Woolworths on Shell Rd.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Schenk, 88-years-young, was doing a minor shop for some very specific items at her local Woolies such as brie cheese, pork rashers, eye fillet steak, A2 milk, double cream, and several other items.<\/p>\n<p>As Ms Schenk was perusing the aisles, she crossed paths with a man she assumed was a firefighter off duty. The two individuals exchanged hellos and went about their own business.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Schenk then concluded her shop and proceeded to the check-out where she ran into the man she met previously. The firefighter was in front of her in the queue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe asked if I wanted to go first and I told him \u2018No, I\u2019m a bit slow you go ahead\u2019,\u201d Ms Schenk said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, he went first with just a few things in a single bag, whereas I had a sizeable amount of shopping.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he was done and paid, he just stood there as the check-out lady put my bags into the trolley. The nice man then leant over and paid for my shopping!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was shocked, it was $140!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Schenk laughingly said she felt terrible and told the man he didn\u2019t have to do that.<\/p>\n<p>The man then told Ms Schenk, \u201cThink of it as my good deed for the week,\u201d then left never to be seen again.<\/p>\n<p>Since the selfless deed was done on November 5, the mother-of-three has had a chance to reflect on the community she lives in on the Bellarine.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 580px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/12\/IMG_2535_99230.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"387\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ms Schenk putting her thoughts to paper in her letter to the editor.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe do, we really do live in such a wonderful area,\u201d Ms Schenk said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI moved to Ocean Grove in 2013 and I find it full of lovely people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, I\u2019m a bit needy I suppose, but I can manage.
