{"id":4738,"date":"2018-01-02T11:51:31","date_gmt":"2018-01-02T11:51:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=4738"},"modified":"2018-01-02T11:51:31","modified_gmt":"2018-01-02T11:51:31","slug":"applications-open-coastcare-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/applications-open-coastcare-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"Applications open for Coastcare grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>APPLICATIONS are now open for the 2018 Coastcare Victoria Community Grants Program, which supports community efforts to protect Victoria\u2019s 2,000 kilometres of coastline.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D\u2019Ambrosio has called on community groups to apply for funding that will help conserve, restore and rehabilitate Victoria\u2019s coastal and marine environments.<\/p>\n<p>A total of $250,000 will be distributed to Victorian community groups, with up to $10,000 available for one-year projects, and $15,000 available for two-year projects.<\/p>\n<p>Projects will focus on issues such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Biodiversity and habitat monitoring and preservation<\/li>\n<li>Threatened species recovery<\/li>\n<li>Revegetation<\/li>\n<li>Long term monitoring of beach condition<\/li>\n<li>Control of weeds and pest animals<\/li>\n<li>Community engagement<\/li>\n<li>Marine and coastal awareness and education<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Several local groups have received Coastcare grants in recent years, including Anglesea Aireys Inlet Society for the Protection of Flora and Fauna (ANGAIR), Friends of Point Addis Marine National Park, Friends of the Hooded Plover Surf Coast and Jan Juc Coast Action earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Established in 1995, Coastcare Victoria works with hundreds of community groups to look after Victoria&#8217;s precious coastal assets, and to foster positive community attitudes towards marine and coastal environments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know how dedicated volunteer groups are across Victoria in helping protect our spectacular coastline,\u201d Ms D\u2019Ambrosio said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Coastcare Community Grants will help volunteer groups maintain our coast through revegetation, monitoring native shorebirds and animals, and protecting cultural sites.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVictorians love our state\u2019s coastline \u2013 and we are investing to ensure our precious and unique coastal environments can be enjoyed by future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Applications close on February 20.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the grants program, including funding guidelines, visit delwp.vic.gov.au\/coastcare.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>APPLICATIONS are now open for the 2018 Coastcare Victoria Community Grants Program, which supports community efforts to protect Victoria\u2019s 2,000 kilometres of coastline.
