{"id":47523,"date":"2021-12-21T04:00:20","date_gmt":"2021-12-20T17:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=47523"},"modified":"2021-12-15T15:24:05","modified_gmt":"2021-12-15T04:24:05","slug":"st-leonards-christmas-in-full-swing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/st-leonards-christmas-in-full-swing\/","title":{"rendered":"St Leonards Christmas in full-swing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A WONDERFUL Christmas tradition has returned to St Leonards with dozens of decorative Christmas trees lining the front fence of Harvey Park.<\/p>\n<p>More than 100 St Leonards Primary School students made the trip down Murradoc Road on Friday to decorate wooden Christmas trees.<\/p>\n<p>St Leonards Men\u2019s Shed members recycled trees from last year\u2019s inaugural event for students to decorate.<\/p>\n<p>Principal of St Leonards Jenny Cowburn said the event was not just about raising Christmas spirit, but also about bringing the town together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so fortunate at our school that we have a community that supports us as well,\u201d Ms Cowburn said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, this is a wonderful project where the St Leonards progress association, the Men\u2019s Shed and the school all work together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we walked down the road to Harvey Park, a lot of the local shopkeepers supported us and there were lots of early holidaymakers that got involved as well, so there was a lot of the St Leonards Christmas spirit encapsulated in what was only a few minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Once all 27 trees were installed, the students were treated to a lunch on the foreshore, before undertaking some group dancing to lighten the mood in front of families in attendance.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 537px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/12\/SLPS3_39077.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"537\" height=\"403\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">After the trees were decorated, the kids and teachers took part in a Christmas rendition of Michael Jackson&#8217;s Thriller.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>President of the St Leonards Men\u2019s Shed, Shane McManus, said his community organisation always looked forward to installing the Christmas trees with local students, accepting the help of plenty of community members who contributed to the setup of the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a long association with the primary school. Eight kids came down to the Men\u2019s Shed last term and we had been doing their woodwork with them, we\u2019re always happy to help the school,\u201d Mr McManus said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChristmas is a rather big deal in St Leonards, the community vibe is good at this time of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe get a lot of holidaymakers arriving to their holiday houses here, as well as a number of campers, but the local community really seems to enjoy the Christmas spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 557px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/12\/SLPS4_02788.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"557\" height=\"418\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Members of the St Leonards Men&#8217;s Shed standing behind the newly decorated Christmas trees at Harvey Park.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The decorated trees coincide with the St Leonard\u2019s Yarn Bombings that were installed throughout the central village a couple weeks ago as a part of the town\u2019s Christmas festivities.<\/p>\n<p>Headlining 2022 Christmas festivities will be the return of the popular St Leonards Christmas Carols that have been cancelled the previous two years and Mr McManus said next year\u2019s festivities will include a reindeer and sleigh produced by the Men\u2019s Shed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A WONDERFUL Christmas tradition has returned to St Leonards with dozens of decorative Christmas trees lining the front fence of Harvey Park.
