{"id":47622,"date":"2021-12-26T04:00:48","date_gmt":"2021-12-25T17:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=47622"},"modified":"2021-12-22T10:56:10","modified_gmt":"2021-12-21T23:56:10","slug":"local-regions-dig-deep-for-itsinthebag-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/local-regions-dig-deep-for-itsinthebag-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Local regions dig deep for #ItsInTheBag campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Geelong, Surf Coast and Bellarine regions have excelled in this year\u2019s #ItsInTheBag campaign with more than a thousand bags of donations pouring in from the start of November.<\/p>\n<p>Australian women\u2019s charity Share The Dignity has received extraordinary kindness from everyday Aussies when it comes to helping those living in crisis through the 2021 #ItsInTheBag campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Share the Dignity\u2019s annual #ItsInTheBag appeal ran throughout November and December to give women in need the gift of dignity this Christmas with donations continuing to trickle in.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong, Bellarine, and Surf Coast locals were amongst the most generous throughout the campaign, donating 1,013 bags to this year\u2019s campaign, which saw a total of 19,312 bags collected across Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>More specifically, Leopold\u2019s Bunnings Warehouse was responsible for receiving 324 bags of donations alone, with more to come.<\/p>\n<p>Across the country, Share the Dignity collected over 93,000 bags, but charities requested over 135,000 bags, a target that was unable to be met due to the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Share the Dignity founder and managing director, Rochelle Courtenay, said while a donation deficit was predicted this year, it didn\u2019t make it any easier to tell charities that their requests cannot be fulfilled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know it\u2019s been another challenging year for many Australians,\u201d Ms Courtenay said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we didn\u2019t quite reach our target, we are so grateful for the incredible generosity of so many people who supported It\u2019s In The Bag this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese special donations will make many women and girls feel loved and cared for, and that\u2019s something we all deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 553px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/12\/IMG_2625_07756.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"553\" height=\"369\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Left to right: Employees Carrie Silke, complex manager Sharon Pushparaj, Share The Dignity &#8216;Shero&#8217; for the Bellarine and Geelong regions Leoni Goodwin, activities organiser Ashleigh Attard, Shelby Jayde and Josh Jones at the entrance of Leopold Bunnings.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The #ItsInTheBag campaign was made possible thanks to Share the Dignity\u2019s army of 5,000 volunteers, who worked tirelessly throughout the year to help those experiencing period poverty.<\/p>\n<p>Local volunteer of the Bellarine and Geelong regions, Leoni Goodwin, is one of Share The Dignity\u2019s \u2018Sheroes\u2019, who is tasked with busily dropping off donations to charities in time for Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVolunteering for Share the Dignity during the It\u2019s in the Bag Campaign, allows me to assist women in a meaningful way,\u201d Ms Goodwin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile assisting Share the Dignity, I am moved by people\u2019s generosity in both the kindness and scope of their charity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Share The Dignity said there is still time to help.
