{"id":48093,"date":"2022-01-14T04:30:51","date_gmt":"2022-01-13T17:30:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=48093"},"modified":"2022-01-12T11:22:44","modified_gmt":"2022-01-12T00:22:44","slug":"bpca-clubs-ready-to-go-after-2022-delay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/bpca-clubs-ready-to-go-after-2022-delay\/","title":{"rendered":"BPCA clubs ready to go after 2022 delay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CRICKETERS across the region are raring to get the second halves of their seasons under way, and now the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association (BPCA) can finally resume its matches following a week-long postponement.<\/p>\n<p>The 2021\/22 BPCA season was scheduled to restart on January 8 following the holiday break, but almost half of the association\u2019s sides had reported large numbers of players affected by COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>After consultations with affiliated organisations, more than seven BPCA clubs were found to be seriously hindered with COVID-19 outbreaks before round 7\u2019s matchups, which led to the season\u2019s resumption being pushed back a week.<\/p>\n<p>One of the clubs, second-ranked A1 side Queenscliff, saw the postponement as a \u201cblessing in disguise\u201d according to Coutas First XI captain Frank Mileto.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou could say that probably for a lot of teams,\u201d Mileto said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIncluding myself, we had six guys that are isolating with COVID in our team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, I think last week was never really going to go ahead in the competitive fashion that we all love so much.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also feel like the league had probably started a week too early anyway, but we\u2019re very keen to get back into it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ocean Grove, who sit third on the A1 ladder, also saw the postponement as a positive.<\/p>\n<p>However, Grubbers head coach Paul Jubber said there were reservations going forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom what I am led to believe, we are definitely playing this week,\u201d Jubber said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing that would stop us playing is the weather, but the thought process is the BPCA might pull the pin on the D Grade competition to allow teams a larger pool of reserve players so teams have less sides to field and relieve some of the stress there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis postponement is not an ongoing solution, because we need to keep forging ahead with the season, because obviously we don\u2019t know how it\u2019s all going to pan out, but we need to make do with what\u2019s available.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 721px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/2021-CricketSat6thN_48692.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"721\" height=\"481\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ocean Grove Cricket Club was one of the clubs that saw the BPCA&#8217;s postponement as a positive, but reaffirmed it is not an ongoing solution.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The present top side in BPCA A1, undefeated Anglesea, have arguably been the luckiest side in the competition regarding players exposed to COVID-19 as well overall success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have actually been quite lucky as a club,\u201d Anglesea president and First XI player Brett Venables said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were in a position to field all of our sides last weekend, but obviously it\u2019s important to bear in mind that that could easily change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking to continue our good form and thanks to the extra week, all of our players are just that bit more excited to get back out there again and play some cricket.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 655px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/2021-CricketSat6thN_93848.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"655\" height=\"437\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Anglesea Cricket Club&#8217;s undefeated A1 side is excited to get the rest of the 2021\/22 season back under way.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Alongside the BPCA\u2019s resumption, the Geelong Cricket Association will also play their fixtures this Saturday, creating a regionwide return to play spanning from Geelong to the Bellarine and the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CRICKETERS across the region are raring to get the second halves of their seasons under way, and now the Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association (BPCA) can finally resume its matches following a week-long postponement.
