{"id":48242,"date":"2022-01-20T04:15:20","date_gmt":"2022-01-19T17:15:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=48242"},"modified":"2022-01-20T09:25:30","modified_gmt":"2022-01-19T22:25:30","slug":"surf-club-scraps-ocean-swim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/surf-club-scraps-ocean-swim\/","title":{"rendered":"Surf club scraps ocean swim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AN OCEAN Grove open water swim has joined the list of local events called off in the wake of escalating COVID-19 numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club (OGSLSC) made the call last week to cancel its Ocean Open Water Swim Festival planned for January 26.<\/p>\n<p>OGSLSC said it prioritised the health and safety of its members and volunteers in reaching its decision.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is with great regret that we advise that this event has been cancelled,&#8221; the club said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club has made the difficult decision to cancel our Hotondo Homes Ocean Open Water Swim on<br \/>\nAustralia Day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the current COVID-19 situation our responsibility for the safety of our volunteers, competitors and the local community became the primary consideration in arriving at this decision.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club has chosen to preserve our surf life savers and prioritise our primary responsibility to provide patrolling members for our beach.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We apologise for the inconvenience and will provide full refunds to all those who have registered for the event. We thank you for your understanding in this challenging time for all.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The club said it planned to welcome back swimmers and spectators for the 2023 event.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/gromsearch-cancelled-due-to-covid-19-situation\/\">Rip Curl&#8217;s GromSearch at Jan Juc<\/a> was similarly cancelled last week, while <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/pier-to-pub-and-mountain-to-surf-called-off\/\">Lorne&#8217;s Pier to Pub swim went virtual<\/a> instead of a live event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AN OCEAN Grove open water swim has joined the list of local events called off in the wake of escalating COVID-19 numbers.
