{"id":48965,"date":"2022-02-14T11:26:48","date_gmt":"2022-02-14T00:26:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=48965"},"modified":"2022-02-14T11:32:52","modified_gmt":"2022-02-14T00:32:52","slug":"homegrown-community-food-swap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/homegrown-community-food-swap\/","title":{"rendered":"Homegrown community food swap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PORT Produce Tree is a grass-roots community group started to help people share their excess home grown produce.<\/p>\n<p>On the second and fourth Saturday of each month the group hosts Port Produce &amp; Food Swaps at 28 Brown Street, Portarlington.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Tree\u2019 is where community members can come and swap produce, recipes, and growing tips.<\/p>\n<p>The next food swap will be held at The Tree on Saturday, February 12, between 10am and 11am.<\/p>\n<p>Co-founder and volunteer at Port Produce Tree, Gabrielle Waller, said the group\u2019s motto is \u2018Take what you need, give what you can\u2019 as there is no monetary value placed on items at the swaps and people do not need to leave food in order to take food.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_48976\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48976\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-48976\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/02\/In-Article-Picture-6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/02\/In-Article-Picture-6.png 600w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/02\/In-Article-Picture-6-300x190.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-48976\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On the second and fourth Saturday of each month the group hosts Port Produce &amp; Food Swaps at &#8216;The Tree&#8217;. Members can bring homegrown produce to swap and share.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are part of the \u2018Grow Free\u2019 movement, which is a grassroots, community building movement that promotes a sustainable culture of growing and sharing healthy food and other resources with our neighbours and community,\u201d Mrs Waller said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe swaps provide connections for like-minded individuals to come together to chat and share tips, ideas and successes about gardening, growing food and cooking, and to share stories and friendships.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Between food swaps, anyone can drop off fresh, uncut fruit, vegetables, seeds, seedlings and herbs to The Tree, which is open every day for drop off.<\/p>\n<p>Items such as eggs, preserves, jams and perishables can be brought to a swap but not left at The Tree.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_48977\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48977\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-48977\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/02\/In-Article-Picture-7.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/02\/In-Article-Picture-7.png 600w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/02\/In-Article-Picture-7-300x190.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-48977\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">There is no monetary value placed on items at the foood swaps and people do not need to leave food in order to take food.
