Georg Fellner (42:28) took out third place on the podium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m ecstatic to have taken out the win,\u201d Conquest said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not getting any younger at 48-years-old, so resting the taper at events are few and far between.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut in terms of a big local event, to be able to win in your home neighbourhood is a pretty special thing as is putting your name on the honour board.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 606px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/03\/BarwonHeadsTriath_68970.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"606\" height=\"404\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Competitors took on a 14km bike ride along 13th Beach Road. Photo: CLAIRE RADFORD<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s event, Penny Nevill blitzed the field to win her second title in a time of 47:01, second place overall went to Johanna Clark (48:15), with Peri Payne taking out third (50:00).<\/p>\n<p>Event director, Lincoln Beckworth, said he was rapt with how the event went.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce again we\u2019ve had an amazing event down here in Barwon Heads,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had over 800 individual competitors and around 100 people competing in the team\u2019s category.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s event was the biggest competitor numbers in the seven-year history of the event.<\/p>\n<p>The triathlon, which includes a 400-metre swim in the Barwon Heads River, a 14-kilometre cycle along 13th Beach Road and a four-kilometre run along the trail path to Ocean Grove, had more than 420 people competing in their first triathlon ever.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 634px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/03\/BarwonHeadsTriath_97615.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"634\" height=\"423\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Runners finished on the back of a 4km run along Ocean Grove&#8217;s trail path. Photo: CLAIRE RADFORD<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the best things about our event is the excitement from all of the \u2018first timers\u2019,\u201d Beckworth said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo many smiling faces and people trying their best. It\u2019s the perfect distance for people to give it a go and have some fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Ocean Grove VIEW Club provided volunteers on the day to raise money for the Smith Family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to have the VIEW club members helping out each year along the course, they enjoy the experience of the event whilst raising money for the club,\u201d Beckworth said.<\/p>\n<p>He also thanked the event\u2019s major sponsor, 13th Beach Health Services, and all of the other local supporters and sponsors of the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir support is key to the event running each year,\u201d Beckworth concluded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re already looking forward to next year.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ADAM Conquest made it three wins in a row, claiming his fourth overall Barwon Heads Triathlon title this past Sunday.
