TWO of Bellarine Community Health\u2019s finest are at it again but this time it is in the fight against blood cancer.<\/p>\n
Staff members Alexandra Mrak and Kathleen Mangan are taking a \u2018bald\u2019 step forward to shave their hair on Thursday, March 17 as part of the Leukaemia Foundation\u2019s World\u2019s Greatest Shave.<\/p>\n
The duo has always wanted to shave their heads for a good cause and the idea to participate in this year\u2019s fundraiser percolated from a tearoom chat.<\/p>\n
\u201cKathleen and I came up with the idea to shave our heads and literally motivated each other to pursue the goal,\u201d Ms Mrak said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we brought the idea to our colleagues, they spurred us on and we thought it would be a great idea to donate to a worthy cause, hence the World\u2019s Greatest Shave.\u201d<\/p>\n
The World\u2019s Greatest Shave, which takes place annually, raises funds to support people diagnosed with blood cancer.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we both work in the health sector, we see the impact that cancers have on families and we both felt it would be great to contribute towards a cure by raising funds to help with research,\u201d Ms Mangan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am proud to be doing something outside my comfort zone by shaving my head, but I\u2019m also proud to be raising funds for a valuable cause and to be representing my colleagues and BCH in some small way.\u201d<\/p>\n
Both Kathleen and Alexandra said they are nervous and excited by the idea of having their heads shaved, but more importantly they feel proud to be supporting the cause.<\/p>\n
The pair are actively fund raising but they are also donating their own pay packets to the cause.<\/p>\n
Between them, the ladies are cashing in a week\u2019s annual leave as a donation.<\/p>\n
The \u2018big snip\u2019 will take place outside Bellarine Community Health\u2019s Point Lonsdale site between 11.30am and 12.30pm this coming Thursday.<\/p>\n
The BCH staffers are hoping to attract a crowd of onlookers and use a sausage sizzle on the day to also help them raise more funds.<\/p>\n
