A NEW social knitting and crochet group has started on the Bellarine Peninsula, welcoming all knitters and crocheters for tea, coffee and a chat while they knit and crochet together.<\/p>\n

Bellarine Peninsula Knit One Crochet Too started last Saturday, March 12, and will be held on the second and fourt Saturday of each month between 2pm and 4pm at the Bellarine Training and Community Hub.<\/p>\n

The group was the initiative of Ocean Grove local Julie Slaviero and is run with help from the Bellarine Training and Community Hub.<\/p>\n

Julie Slaviero first thought to start Crochet and Knitting club last Christmas when she couldn\u2019t find a knitting group in the area that accommodated those working full-time.<\/p>\n

She took the idea from a social knitting group she used to attend in Geelong, where she said she made lifelong friends and a lot of knits.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just used to meet casually for a knit and a chat and lunch, that kind of thing,\u201d Ms Slaviero said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been in Ocean Grove probably four years now and have not been part of a knitting group for a long time.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo last year I suddenly thought I\u2019d really love to go back to a knitting group because you tend to work on your projects a lot more when you dedicate your time, especially when you\u2019re working and you\u2019ve got kids and whatever else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Slaviero said she posted on a number of the local community pages in hopes of finding a group on the Bellarine Peninsula, but when she couldn\u2019t find one that suited her working full-time and finding time for her family, she decided to start one up herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I tried to hunt around and find a group but of course I couldn\u2019t find one,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of them ran during the day when a lot of us would still be working, so they tended to be aimed towards people who were retired.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo because there was nothing I thought \u2018alright, let\u2019s look at getting something started\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Slaviero said she began the search for the perfect space to host a group, when she reached out the Bellarine Training and Community Hub.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe purpose of it is anybody, men, women, or whoever, anyone who enjoys knitting or crochet, to come together, knit, crochet, have a coffee and have a chat, so it\u2019s just a casual thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The group is open to all, with no registration or tickets needed and just a $5 entrance fee to cover venue costs, tea and coffee.<\/p>\n
