TIME is running out for scarecrow creators to add their entries to the fence line of a Bellarine brewer.<\/p>\n

Wallington’s Flying Brick Cider Co has launched its third annual Great Australian Scarecrow Competition, which sees local residents create and install the crow frighteners with an emphasis on creativity.<\/p>\n

The cider company launched its competition in 2020 as a way to protect its crucial apple harvest from would-be avian pillagers and to engage with local communities. Families, clubs, aged care homes and school classes have been among the participants in the contest which lines dozens of whacky creations along the brewery’s fence.<\/p>\n

Traditional farmer’s flanno looks, a Shrek, a crow-themed grim reaper, an Easter Bunny, and witch-like scarecrows are among the entries already included in this year’s event, highlighting the diversity and eccentricity encouraged for entries.<\/p>\n

The scarecrow competition is free to enter for all ages.<\/p>\n

The winning entry takes home a cash prize of $2000, while minor prizes including dining vouchers will also go to the creators of successful entries.<\/p>\n

The last scarecrows will be installed on March 25, with judges to decide the winner the following week on April 2.<\/p>\n
