QUEENSCLIFF\u2019S Sport and Recreation precinct is on track for completion in April this year.<\/p>\n
Construction has started on the state government funded $3.15 million council upgrade, with civil works contractor John Monahan Pty Ltd formally taking possession last month.<\/p>\n
Bellarine MP Lisa Neville and Queenscliffe mayor Susan Salter recently visited the site, which will feature new netball courts and cricket nets, more than 90 new car parking spaces with accompanying roadway, kerbing and footpaths, a new playground and refreshed landscaping.<\/p>\n
The schedule of works also includes the construction of an improved retaining wall to the rear of the Monahan Centre and installation of underground utility services.<\/p>\n
Ms Neville said she was looking forward to the clubs and their members soon being able to play on the first class facilities they deserved.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen completed I know the upgraded sports precinct will provide a great community asset that will serve the community of Queenscliff well for many years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cr Salter said the start of works at the precinct was very much welcomed.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause of the commitment of the state government, council will be able to provide the members of our sporting clubs and their supporters with vastly improved facilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am delighted that this work has begun and look forward to seeing netball played on the new courts at the start of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n
The $3.15 million funding for the upgrade of the Sport and Recreation precinct has been provided under the Victorian Government\u2019s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.<\/p>\n
