{"id":4994,"date":"2018-01-04T06:41:05","date_gmt":"2018-01-04T06:41:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=4994"},"modified":"2018-01-04T06:41:05","modified_gmt":"2018-01-04T06:41:05","slug":"charity-event-takes-hike-sands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/charity-event-takes-hike-sands\/","title":{"rendered":"Charity event takes a hike to The Sands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Sands in Torquay will host this year\u2019s genU Hundred Hole Hike.<\/p>\n<p>In its sixth year, the charity event on Monday January 15 will test fitness, golfing skill and sheer determination.<\/p>\n<p>It will also help genU raise the funds it needs to keep the programs at the ABI Clubhouse East Geelong running, supporting the people who need them, people living with Acquired Brain Injury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter five years and $250,000 raised we are so pleased to be continuing with this event at our new home The Sands, Torquay in 2018,\u201d genU Karingal St Laurence chief executive officer Mike McKinstry said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMake no mistake, this is no walk in the park \u2013 The Sands boasts an impressive course that will test the best golfers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Director at genU Patrick Lockie, who lives in Barwon Heads, said he was looking forward to taking part in his second Hundred Hole Hike.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Lockie said he loved the event and especially the great camaraderie of the day.<\/p>\n<p>He is also on top of the leaderboard for fundraising this year and raised a big amount last year.<\/p>\n<p>Teams and individual golfers are welcome to register and compete for the glory of finishing and will, apart from raising a minimum of $1,000 to be eligible to tee off, also complete 100 holes of golf each (individual players).<\/p>\n<p>They will also walk about 60 kilometres (or in Fitbit speak take 2.3 million steps) over 15 hours, in one day \u2013 walking all the way. Rebecca lives in Leopold and has two beautiful kids.
