THE Barwon Coast Committee of Management will officially take over Breamlea\u2019s caravan park from Friday next week, and is inviting campers to meet the new management team.<\/p>\n
Presently managed by the City of Greater Geelong, the Breamlea Holiday Park and foreshore lies within the Breamlea coastal reserves.<\/p>\n
The city ran an independent review, which supported a change of management, and acknowledged significant resources were required to run the city\u2019s only holiday park.<\/p>\n
In October 2019, the council resolved to support a change of management of the coastal land to Barwon Coast, which will take effect on April 1.<\/p>\n
Barwon Coast chief executive officer Gary McPike said Barwon Coast was running community events in March and April to connect with the local community and campers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Barwon Coast team would like to meet with people who live near, visit or use the Breamlea coast or the Breamlea caravan park.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe wish to understand people\u2019s aspirations and concerns about the area or caravan park and to share information on Barwon Coast and how to connect with us going forward.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone is welcome to attend any of these sessions. It will be a great chance for people to meet our management team and chat about ideas or concerns they have.\u201d<\/p>\n
Barwon Coast already runs two caravan parks at Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads and a seasonal campground on the Ocean Grove Spit.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have 55 highly skilled staff who specialise in the conservation of natural resources, coastal amenity management, caravan park management and tourism accommodation,\u201d Mr McPike said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are skilled and ready to take over the management of Breamlea.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Barwon Coast model of management ensures that revenue from the Breamlea caravan park will go directly into improvement of the caravan park itself and to the protection and enhancement of local coastal reserves.\u201d<\/p>\n
Community drop-in sessions were held at the Breamlea Holiday Park\u2019s community hall on Wednesday last week and on Saturday, and a camper barbecue and chat event will be held at the park\u2019s barbecue area on April 16 from 9am to noon.<\/p>\n
People may attend at any time throughout the sessions.<\/p>\n
