THE University of the Third Age (U3A) is readying themselves for their inaugural summer school, with retirees on the Surf Coast embarking on an adventurous timetable.<\/p>\n
U3A Surf Coast, a voluntary not-for-profit organisation formed in 2014, is part of a worldwide network offering around 20 classes and activities each school term.<\/p>\n
Courses cover arts, humanities, languages, science, exercise, lifestyle and computers and include year-long classes, short courses and occasional lectures.<\/p>\n
From January 16 to 18, a combined inaugural Corio Bay, Geelong and Surf Coast Summer School will take place at a number of venues with Scottish dancing, paleonthropology, genealogy, poetry, music, life drawing, history just some of the activities available.<\/p>\n
On January 16 there will be two Corio Bay cruises as well as a visit to the Mt Rothwell Conservation and Research Centre.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday Dr Ian Warren, Senior Lecturer at Deakin University will give a lecture titled The Crims Will Outrun the Law and on Thursday the keynote speaker at Cobbin Farm is Commissioner for Senior Victorians, Gerard Mansour.<\/p>\n
Bookings are essential for Corio Bay and Geelong activities but the Surf Coast Open Day will run Wednesday January 17 at Spring Creek Community House, with no bookings necessary.<\/p>\n
All activities are open to the public as well as U3A members.<\/p>\n
