VILLAWOOD Properties has updated its corten letters in Highton as a reminder for drivers to get to their destinations safely over the holidays.<\/p>\n
The developer and the Transport Accident Commission recently launched a \u201cDrive Safe\u201d campaign, which included changing the letters on the hill next to the Geelong Ring Road to the two-word phrase.<\/p>\n
State Emergency Service spokesperson Ian Carlton encouraged drivers to be present behind the wheel.<\/p>\n
\u201cQuite often holidaymakers will find themselves on unfamiliar roads, in increased traffic and driving long distances,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey may also be driving under different conditions such as a weather event, towing a trailer or caravan, or with extra passengers inside the car.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is not just concentrating on your own driving that is important, it is also essential to have an awareness of other vehicles and be ready to react if something unpredictable happens.\u201d<\/p>\n
Villawood executive director Rory Costelloe said Victoria\u2019s south-west was a hot spot for tourists, and many of them would drive past the \u201cDrive Safe\u201d message.<\/p>\n
\u201cHopefully it encourages people to be patient and alert on the roads, especially in heavy conditions.<\/p>\n
