{"id":50584,"date":"2022-04-10T09:08:20","date_gmt":"2022-04-09T23:08:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=50584"},"modified":"2022-04-10T09:09:17","modified_gmt":"2022-04-09T23:09:17","slug":"shifting-sands-a-festival-to-make-sense-of-uncertain-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/living\/shifting-sands-a-festival-to-make-sense-of-uncertain-times\/","title":{"rendered":"Shifting Sands a festival to make sense of uncertain times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Queenscliffe Literary Festival (QLF) has announced its 2022 theme, \u2018Shifting Sands\u2019, and officially launched its 2022 program, with three action-packed weekends planned for May.<\/p>\n<p>The QLF announced its 2022 program and theme last month with pre-event drinks supplied by Provenance Wines, a Welcome to the Country ceremony, and opening speeches by the mayor and QLF president Pauline Nunan.<\/p>\n<p>The event signalled the magnitude of this year\u2019s festival, with a full house \u2013 over 300 locals and visitors \u2013 attending the Town Hall where author Jon Faine spoke about his new book, Apollo &amp; Thelma.<\/p>\n<p>QLF program director Jane Finemore said this year\u2019s theme speaks directly to contemporary events.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_50616\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-50616\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-50616 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/04\/weirdly-sized-image-5-600x320.png?_t=1649211090\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"320\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-50616\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Renowned Melburnian Kate Langbroek will speak at the festival about her memoir, Ciao Bella, a story of taking her family to live in Italy for two years. Photos: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe shifting sands theme is just pointing to the uncertainty of our time. With the pandemic, war, increasing national disasters, making people feel quite frightened and can create a lot of fear. We just say shifting sands, in these times we turn to the writers, thinkers, poets, the doers to help us make sense,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally it\u2019s a festival of ideas. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Finemore said this year\u2019s festival is shaping up to be particularly special, with a number of keynote speakers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year is really just star studded. There will be so many big writers. These authors see the festival as a destination festival and its very rewarding for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got Kylie Moore-Gilbert speaking, she was was held prisoner in Iran for 804 days and she\u2019s written a memoir called The Uncaged Sky.
