IT\u2019S A case of sail and see, with Torquay Sailing Club\u2019s \u201cTry Sailing\u201d workshops starting on January 14.<\/p>\n
Running over the school holidays, the workshops encourage children and adults wanting to sail to come along and learn the skills.<\/p>\n
A second O\u2019pen Bic training course for young people will start on January 16 running every Tuesday afternoon for eight weeks.<\/p>\n
Chris Hordern from TSC said the course for children uses O\u2019pen Bic yachts, which are a small craft ideal for young people.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll the courses cover the setting up and rigging of the boat, the fundamentals of sailing, safety on the water and much more,\u201d Mr Hordern said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe course will provide an excellent opportunity for those with little or no experience in sailing to learn the basics with experienced sailors as instructors all with a background in teaching the art of sailing.\u201d<\/p>\n
For adults, there are two training sessions over the holiday period \u2013 January 14 and a second beginning February 25, both running over a four-week period.<\/p>\n
The training course for adults will use the Club\u2019s fleet of Hobie Waves \u2013 a small catamaran \u2013 easily managed by beginners and provides a safe introduction to catamaran sailing.<\/p>\n
Mr Hordern said for those who don\u2019t have a boat and would like to sail during the holiday period the club has Hobie Waves for hire.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn addition the club has a very good deal whereby you can have access to a Hobie Wave for the whole season for the modest fee of $300,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
