{"id":53490,"date":"2022-06-04T04:15:22","date_gmt":"2022-06-03T18:15:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=53490"},"modified":"2022-06-01T14:00:47","modified_gmt":"2022-06-01T04:00:47","slug":"qlf-closes-book-on-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/qlf-closes-book-on-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"QLF closes book on 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>QUEENSCLIFFE\u2019S biggest gathering of literary fans has concluded with thousands of booklovers attending over three separate weekends.<\/p>\n<p>The annual Queenscliffe Literary Festival has closed the book on 2022 with a record turnout attending sessions and listening to stories from some of the nation\u2019s most successful writers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe capped off the third weekend of the festival on Sunday with a record number of audience members to listen to some really big names in the literature world,\u201d festival program director Jane Finemore said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople like Charlotte Wood, Michelle de Kretser, Tony Birch, and Helen Garner headlined a full house line-up on our final weekend, including radio host and novelist Kate Langbroek.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was the perfect way to finish this year\u2019s successful event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 492px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/06\/QLF4_91974.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"492\" height=\"369\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Left to right: Authors Toni Jordan, Jacquie Byron, Katherine Collette in conversation with Lyn Yeowart.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Finemore said she was happy to see the festival complete all three of its weekends, compared to the 2021 event, which was halted after two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone benefited from the event this year in Queenscliff,\u201d Ms Finemore said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRestaurants, cafes and the accommodation at popular stays like the Athelstane House and the Point Lonsdale Guesthouse all enjoyed plenty of guests. Every year we bring plenty of business down to the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 523px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/06\/QLF2_97134.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"523\" height=\"393\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Emily Bitto and Michelle de Kretser (Zooming in from Sydney) in conversation with Sophie Cunningham.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The QLF estimates it averaged 150 guests across 24 events over the three weeks, taking the total number of festivalgoers to 3,600; the highest it has ever been.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Finemore said she and the rest of the QLF committee would take a short break before getting stuck into planning for next year\u2019s event, but the program director is hopeful for back-to-back successful festivals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think next year the festival is going to be bigger,\u201d Ms Finemore said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had people coming over from Sorrento on the ferry, other regional areas like Ballarat and Bendigo, and of course from Melbourne particularly on the final weekend, so I believe we will see growth in 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 474px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/06\/QLF1_50455.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"355\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Author Charlotte Wood in conversation with Sophie Cunningham.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Head to QLF\u2019s socials to see the full gallery from all three weekends.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QUEENSCLIFFE\u2019S biggest gathering of literary fans has concluded with thousands of booklovers attending over three separate weekends.
