{"id":53924,"date":"2022-06-09T04:15:22","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T18:15:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=53924"},"modified":"2022-06-09T08:43:04","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T22:43:04","slug":"drysdale-freezes-for-mnd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/drysdale-freezes-for-mnd\/","title":{"rendered":"Drysdale freezes for MND"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Drysdale Football Netball Club\u2019s first \u201cbig freeze\u201d event has been a massive success, raising more than $51,000 towards fighting to find a cure for motor neurone disease (MND).<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday afternoon, 13 brave celebrity and local personalities hit the ice as part of a huge day that attracted massive crowds to Mortimer Oval.<\/p>\n<p>Sliders included FightMND founder Neale Daniher\u2019s nephew and event organiser James Bruest, Leisure Networks\u2019 Luke Maher, Daryl Reader from Bay 93.9 and many more.<\/p>\n<p>Some fantastic costumes were on show during the festivities including Warwick Capper, Dorothy the Dinosaur, Joe Exotic and the Bananas in Pyjamas.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_53929\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-53929\" style=\"width: 648px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-53929\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/06\/0M0A7425_94759.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"648\" height=\"432\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-53929\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of the Bananas in Pyjamas hits the ice. Photos: MARCEL BERENS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The event was MCd by Bay 93.9\u2019s Roxie Bennett, with the presenter entertaining the crowd with plenty of laughs as the sliders shivered their way out of the ice pool.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bruest was thrilled with the success of his club\u2019s inaugural big freeze event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was such a great festival type of atmosphere on Saturday with close to a thousand people rocking in to see us brave the ice,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was kids running around everywhere, families cheering and plenty of laughs and fun.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were rapt with everyone\u2019s buy-in on the day, especially the umpires and Portarlington who wore their MND socks to raise awareness of the cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 578px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/06\/A20I8207_10792.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"578\" height=\"868\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jason Singh, dressed as Warick Capper, takes the plunge. Photos: MARCEL BERENS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Drysdale FNC event organiser Graeme Reid echoed Bruest\u2019s sentiment, noting the event was strongly received by the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe event by far exceeded our expectations and was a fantastic show of community spirit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo set out to raise $10,000 and come through at $51,500 is an amazing feat that we are very proud of.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were overwhelmed by the response and funds raised by our sliders as well as the generosity of the community who bought beanies and cheered on our brave people as they went into the ice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Drysdale FNC were honoured by all the generous donations, especially the impressive $15,000 raised single-handedly by Cats waterboy Sam Moorcroft, who dressed as Geelong skipper Joel Selwood.<\/p>\n<p>The club hopes that its 2023 event is bigger and better and are excited to keep MND research in the limelight.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Drysdale Football Netball Club\u2019s first \u201cbig freeze\u201d event has been a massive success, raising more than $51,000 towards fighting to find a cure for motor neurone disease (MND).
